Maria Grazia Chiuri presented the Dior Spring/Summer collection 2018. The runway looks were heavily inspired by feminism and the empowerment of women. The looks were bold and masculine with feminine shapes and colours. T-shirts had statement slogans across the middle “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?”, there was lots of denim, leather and dresses were soft pink, sparkly and floaty the epitome of girly. Maria Grazia Chiuri was proving her point that women can be fierce and bold but still very feminine.

A Celebration of Female Creativity

There was definitely a 70’s vibe in this collection, with 70’s style patchwork denim jeans, leather jumpsuits and glittering mini dresses. The runway pieces featured female artists prints emblazoned on them.
The shows theme was empowering women, the 2017 slogan “We Should All Be Feminists” t-shirt was the first step towards their feminist movement, this season Dior focused on women in the creative world. Linda Nochlin’s 1971 article about the barriers women artists face, this was given to every guest at the show.
Maria Grazia Chiuri main goal for this collection was to appeal to the millennials, the shoes on the runway were low heels and practical style boots, Millennials choice of footwear has been practicality over fashion and Maria has taken note and catered specially to this new generation of fashionistas.
